Orb Networks Opens New Office in Paris
Growth and Partners Drive Expansion into Europe
EMERYVILLE, Calif., November 17, 2006 - Orb Networks announced today it expanded operations in Europe to better support its growing number of strategic partners there and successfully launch the Orb 2.0 MyCasting service. The company opened an office in Paris and promoted Orb business development executive Scott Monson to general manager of European operations. In addition, two-year Orb veterans Arnaud Portanelli and Guillaume Le Dieu de Ville will be responsible for strategic business development and marketing in Europe as part of this expansion.
"Europe represents an excellent growth opportunity for Orb. The well established broadband infrastructure, both wireline and wireless, has brought convergence services to the forefront in Europe. When you combine those factors with our strategic partnerships and high concentration of users in Europe, we need an operational arm here to support the growth and be responsive to our customers and partners," said Monson, who has been with Orb for over two years and brings more than 14 years of experience to his new position.
Over the past month, several partners have either introduced or expanded the Orb MyCasting services in Europe, including:
- Hutchison 3 Group announced this week that it will bundle a customized version of Orb called "Orb on 3." Orb on 3 will begin rolling out to 3G customers in five countries, including the United Kingdom, Sweden and Denmark.
- Vodafone D2 announced last week it is offering its Mein PC bundle to its customers. This includes both mobile and PC services.
- Hauppauge launched its "TV Anywhere" campaign in the UK this summer and offers a growing number of its tuner cards with Orb that will roll out in other geographies including France and Germany later this year.
- Nokia announced it is offering Orb on its N80 Internet Edition Multi-media computer globally with an initial offering in the US and moving into Europe by the end of 2006.
- AOL Winamp launched its Winamp Remote beta service, powered by Orb Networks, in October.
Other established partners include AMD, Intel and Netgear.
"The direction of the web is very obvious - it is all about the user," said Monson. "Orb embodies that paradigm shift. The release of MyCasting with Orb 2.0 will provide millions of consumers an entirely new opportunity for media consumption -- a simple and powerful way to create their own personal media channels that can then be accessed, enjoyed and shared across multiple types of devices. MyCasting also brings content providers a new way of reaching their customer base."
